Minxie Hayes is a cheerleader and was on the bus that was attacked by The Creeper. She is the first of the group on the bus to learn about the Creeper as she develops the clairvoyant ability to dream and communicate with the deceased victims which helps her warn the rest of the group of the threat.
Biography[]
Minxie first appears on the bus and is one of the cheerleaders. She approaches Rhonda Truitt realizing she is not sitting with her boyfriend, Scott Braddock, who is not celebrating with the rest of his teammates. The bus comes to a stop having punctured a tire. She smokes with her cheerleader friends, Rhonda and Chelsea Farmer, and they get busted by Coach Charlie Hanna. After Hanna orders them back on the bus and walks away, bus driver Betty Borman comes out of the trees smoking, implying she was the one who gave them the cigarettes. After an hour or two, the adults decide that they can still limp the bus home.
As night begins to fall, Minxie falls asleep and has a dream where she sees Darry Jenner pointing to the cornfield, noticing his shirt torn missing a sleeve and showing his bellybutton with a rose tattoo (just like he appeared in the first film) and appearing distraught and fearful. She then sees Billy Taggart who is also pointing to the cornfield also very fearful but very bloodied on his head. She finally spots the Creeper sprinting along the field and is tossing a shuriken at the same wheel that was damaged during the day at a previous time. She wakes to she find the dream to be more of a reality as the bus tire blows out completely. Bus driver Betty orders everyone to exit the bus. The adults investigate and find the shuriken in the tire and Minxie recognizes Darry's rose tattoo on the shuriken that struck the bus. Betty notices and horrified that the shuriken is bellybutton, she tells the Coach Dwayne Barnes to get everyone back on the bus, as she has a bad feeling. However, Coach Hanna gets scooped up and flown off by the Creeper while they are talking. No one sees it happen and only hear him yell and see the flare he was holding fall from the sky. When the students get back on the bus, Minxie is puzzled with the rest when Jake Spencer claims he saw Betty flying away. Then the Creeper returns to take Barnes leaving the group leaderless and without adult supervision. The students panic and close windows and protect themselves.
After about an hour of the group arguing and figuring out what to do, Minxie is the one who first to spot the Creeper sniffing the bus. The Creeper than jumps and sniffs them around and decided his targets, Minxie being one of them. After the Creeper leaves, Minxie faints and drifts into another dream, being at Billy Taggart's family farm moving backwards. She walks forward and advances the scarecrows, instantly distinguishing the Creeper from the other two. She then hears and sees Darry again behind her, who is speaking rapidly as many people are trying to talk to her through Darry. Darry finally tells her about the Creeper. He states "Every 23rd spring, for 23 days, it gets to eat." She looks back at the Creeper and questions what, but then turns around to see Darry without his eyes and saying "eat us." She is frightened awake back on the bus when as the Creeper springs wings in her dream.
Minxie tells everyone about what the deceased Darry told her, and how the Creeper has picked people out. Scotty thinks she has gone crazy, but Minxie continues to explain how the Creeper is over a thousand years old and has been unkillable. She adds it sniffs out people's fear to decide who it wants and what it wants to eat from them and that after its 23 days, it returns to the Earth to hibernate for another 23 years and start the cycle over again. Team Equipment Manager Andy "Bucky" Buck panics and continues to radio for help, Bucky was to reach Jack Taggart Sr., Billy's father, for help. The Creeper attempted to abduct Bucky but Rhonda saves him by hitting the Creeper through the head with a javelin. This forces the Creeper to rip part of his head off then fly away. However, the Creeper returns by crashing down on the bus, breaking a hole on the roof for his wing to slide through. The group being unsure if the Creeper is dead try to get everyone on the back side into the front and escape. However, Dante Belasco, decides to play with the wings, causing the Creeper to trap him and decapitate him. Minxie, along with everyone, screams in horror as Dante's now headless body swings around until it falls to the ground. She, like everyone, listens in terror as the Creeper is devouring Dante's head to replace his own damaged head. She was being shook by Rhonda asking what the Creeper is doing now.
After the Creeper flies away, Scotty tries to convince everyone to throw everyone who the Creeper has picked out off the bus for everyone else's safety, ignoring and pretending he is not one of the targets. He tries to use Minxie's newfound knowledge of the Creeper to further prove his argument. Everyone protests and all, including Minxie, decide to leave the bus, with Scotty following to try to convince Rhonda to stay with him. However, Izzy Bohen spots the Creeper up in the sky watching them, scaring them to run back to the bus. Unfortunately, Jonny Young stayed on the bus and locked everyone else out, including Minxie, forcing them to run away when the Creeper swoops in after them.
Minxie managed to run and get found by the Taggarts, who ask her to take them back to the bus. She tries to tell him it does not matter as no one else is there and the Creeper cannot be stopped. Jack Sr. insists and tells her to stay in the truck with his son, Jacky until it is over. She snaps and says it'll never be over and that the cycle will continue. She, reluctantly, directs them back to the bus and stays in the truck with Jacky as Jack Sr harpoons and battles the Creeper. As the Creeper was able to remove the harpoon from his chest and toss it back at the truck, Minxie jumps out and gets to the side of the road to safety. She gathers with the remaining people on the bus and Jacky who tend to Jack Sr. after the truck flips over and the bus gets torn up.
She is last seen riding with the Taggarts along with Bucky, Jonny, and Chelsea as they made it in time for Double D to be rescued. Taggart Sr. distracts the Creeper, who had D pinned, and harpooned the Creeper in the forehead. Minxie watches on, tending to D, as Jack Sr. continues to angrily stab the Creeper repeatedly trying to kill it. However, she sees the Creepers last burning look on Jack Sr. and tells him that the Creeper is not dead and that its time ran out.
Psychic abilities[]
Minxie is a strong psychic. She had a vision that the Creeper got closer and closer and just as she saw him throw his shuriken in her "dream", she awoke as it punctured one of the bus's tires. Her psychic abilities are very strong as she is not only able to see her visions in her mind, but actually be in them and be seen in them by other characters in her visions. It is unknown why her psychic abilities manifested all of a sudden but one "unlikely" theory is that the Creeper somehow generates psychic abilities in his surroundings, but this is highly unlikely due to the fact the police officer from the first movie exclaims that Jezelle believes herself to be the towns psychic but tells her to turn off her police scanner and to go home. Also, the fact that no one else gets these "visions" or "dreams"; and the fact that she knew about the Creeper and his activities means she was psychic before she knew of the Creeper.
Trivia[]
- In Minxie's psychic visions Darry does not have the torn sleeve wrapped around his hand.
- Minxie is one of only 2 characters (the other being Trish Jenner) to have their underwear shown (both wear black thongs). Though this was an accident on her actress's part due to her shirt being lifted up when she was crouch-walking; Trish wad getting up from peeing in a field.
- Although Minxie did not appear in Jeepers Creepers 3, she was rumored to star in the film before the script and story changes were made.
- Her psychic abilities helped her understand the Creeper similarly to Jezelle Gay Hartman. However, Minxie learns through Necromancy, communicating with the deceased Darry Jenner while Jezelle learns through clairvoyance via dreaming the future and trying to warn Darry of his grim fate, in hopes to avert it.
- It is unclear if Minxie found out Jack Sr. is the father of Billy Taggart, whom she saw in her dream and realizing he is out seeking revenge on the Creeper.
- As of the three films timeline, Minxie is the second person to be able to communicate with a deceased victim of the Creeper.
- The first time was in Jeepers Creepers 3, where Gaylen Brandon speaks with her deceased son, Kenny Brandon, who was killed by the Creeper in 1978.
- Jezelle was never established to talking to deceased victims of the Creeper as in the first movie, she warns Darry based on future visions.
- Her actress originally wanted Minxie to show up at the end of the film, married to Jack Jr and pregnant.
- The character of Minxie was inspired by Clear Rivers, a central character in the Final Destination series, notably the first and second installments.
